Happy Ganesh Chaturthi
Ganesh Chaturthi is one of the most popular and widely celebrated festivals in India. It marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, the son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, who is worshipped as the remover of obstacles and the god of wisdom, prosperity, and good fortune. The festival usually falls in the Hindu month of Bhadrapada.
People bring beautifully crafted idols of Lord Ganesha into their homes or community pandals and perform Aarti, sing devotional songs, and offer sweets like Modaks, which are considered Lord Ganesha’s favorite. The atmosphere is filled with joy, devotion, and togetherness as families and communities come together to celebrate.
Ganesh Chaturthi is especially grand in Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Goa, where massive processions, decorations, and cultural programs take place. It also emphasizes environmental responsibility, with many people now preferring eco-friendly idols.
On the last day, the idol is immersed in water, known as Visarjan, symbolizing the cycle of birth, life, and dissolution. This farewell is accompanied by chants of “Ganpati Bappa Morya, Pudhchya Varshi Lavkar Ya” (O Lord Ganesha, come back soon next year).
The festival teaches devotion, humility, and unity among people.
