National Sports Day
National Sports Day is celebrated every year on 29th August in India to honor Major Dhyan Chand, the legendary hockey player. He is known as the “Hockey Wizard” because of his amazing control and skills in the game. Born on 29th August 1905 in Allahabad (now Prayagraj), Dhyan Chand worked very hard to become one of the greatest players in the world. He won three Olympic gold medals for India in 1928, 1932, and 1936 and scored more than 400 goals in international matches. His dribbling and ball control were so magical that people all over the world admired him. Even Adolf Hitler offered him a high position in Germany, but he refused because of his love for India.
We celebrate National Sports Day not only to remember Major Dhyan Chand but also to promote sports and fitness in the country. On this day, the Government of India gives important awards like the Khel Ratna and Arjuna Award to outstanding players. Major Dhyan Chand’s life teaches us the importance of hard work, dedication, and love for the game. This day reminds us to stay fit, encourage sports among the youth, and support our athletes who make the nation proud.
