20th August is the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister of India, Late Shri Rajiv Gandhi. This day is celebrated as Sadbhavana Diwas; the purpose of this day is to spread the message of peace, unity and friendship among the people of India.
Rajiv Gandhi is called the builder of modern India. He started many new changes in the fields of Information Technology, Telecom and Science. He played a big role in bringing the Computer Revolution and expanding the Telecom Network in the country. His simple and modern thinking gave India a new identity in the world.
He often said that India is a country of the youth. During his tenure (1984–1989), India made significant progress in education, technological development and economic reforms. His National Education Policy of 1986 promoted higher education and laid the foundation of the computer revolution in the technology sector. His government also made an important decision by reducing the voting age from 21 to 18 years, which helped young people take part in politics.
Sadbhavana Diwas is not only a day to remember Rajiv Gandhi’s contributions, but also a day to inspire all Indians to stay United and Work Together for peace and goodwill.
