Special Blog on the Occasion of Shri Krishna Janmashtami
The festival of Janmashtami, celebrated on the Ashtami tithi of ‘Krishan Pakash’ the month of ‘Bhadarpad’, marks the birth anniversary of Lord Shri Krishna. It is celebrated across India with great devotion and enthusiasm. This is not only a religious festival, but also conveys the message of love, devotion and triumph of truth.
Lord Shri Krishna incarnated on earth to eliminate unrighteousness and tyranny. Every phase of his life gives us an important life lesson— be it his playful childhood in Gokul or the battlefield of Mahabharata. On this day, devotees observe fasts, sing devotional songs and celebrate the birth of Lord Krishna at midnight.
The childhood pastimes of Shri Krishna are extremely enchanting and inspiring. Whether it is stealing butter or relieving the sorrows of the people of Gokul— each story reflects his compassion and affection. This child form of Krishna inspires us to live life with simplicity, truth and joy.
On Janmashtami, temples are decorated with flowers and lamps. In many places, Dahi-Handi competitions are organized which remind us of Krishna’s butter stealing pastimes. Devotees offer devotional songs and midnight offerings of butter and sugar to please the Lord.
Shri Krishna is not only a deity, but also a great thinker and guide. His teaching from the Bhagavad Gita- “Do your duty without worrying about the results” -still inspires all of us today. By following the path of truth, righteousness and love, we can make our life beautiful.
The festival of Janmashtami reminds us that whenever unrighteousness rises, the Lord will incarnate to restore righteousness. On this auspicious occasion, we should all resolve to adopt love, compassion and truth in our lives.
Wishing you all a very Happy Shri Krishna Janmashtami
